About TMSDC Education Foundation
TMSDC Education Foundation is a Nashville-based nonprofit providing scholarships to at-risk high school students and minority business owners
The Challenge
The original site was outdated, cluttered, and hard to navigate, especially for students and minority-owned businesses searching for scholarships or support programs. As a nonprofit, the foundation needed a design that felt trustworthy and academic, not flashy or corporate: clean, structured, and straightforward.
My Role
The wireframes were already sorted by the Design In Flow team. My role was to take what they'd mapped out and actually bring it to life as a fully functional, responsive site.
The users here weren't a generic audience, but students hunting for scholarships and minority-owned businesses looking for support programs. They needed to land on a site and immediately find what they came for. So the whole build was driven by that:
Reorganized the content flow so the key actions like scholarship applications, resources, and program info were impossible to miss
Kept the look academic and grounded, not flashy. Structured typography, calm color palette (their branding), nothing that felt out of place for a nonprofit foundation
Streamlined navigation so the old clutter was gone and every path led somewhere useful
Made sure it held up fully responsive across all screen sizes, because this audience isn't all on MacBooks
Every call I made came back to the same two things: trust and ease of use. For a nonprofit serving real people with real needs, that's the whole job.
The Results
The new website now reflects the foundation’s mission and values. Visitors can quickly find what they need, engagement has improved, and the team finally has a digital presence that feels reliable, professional, and purpose-driven.
